Dear Edgewood Community, Recently we have experienced three school threats. We are thankful that these threats were determined to not be credible. Despite this, we do feel that our families should be informed that when a threat is called in we take it seriously. We work with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department and Trenton Police Department to determine the seriousness and the source of the threat. Students who make these threats face consequences from the school district as well as the police department. We have been informed that the serious nature of these types of threats, can result in harsh consequences through the legal system impacting the students and their families. The most recent threats have dealt with photos that were taken from other websites or stock photos photoshopped to mention our schools or district. These have then been posted on students’ storylines or shared through social media. If students see these types of posts they should report them to their parents/guardians and/or their school principals. As parents and guardians, you may wish to monitor your child’s social media accounts and make sure they understand the serious nature of these types of threats. We sincerely appreciate the hard work of the Butler County Sherriff’s Department and the Trenton Police Department. We appreciate the students and families who have brought this information to our attention and will continue to take the safety of our students and staff very seriously. As always, “Stay safe. Speak up.”

To Edgewood Parents, Guardians, Students, and Staff, We want to update you regarding the threat situation that occurred early this morning and to provide information on why school was canceled today. Early this morning, our district was notified about a threat on social media. The threat made mention of EHS but it was unclear if this was a reference to Edgewood High School or another school. Once notified, school administration immediately contacted the Butler County Sheriff Office (BCSO) and the Trenton Police Department. Both departments worked to investigate the matter. Our Administration decided to cancel school in order to allow the investigation to take place. This action was taken out of an abundance of caution to keep all of our students and staff safe. After completion of the investigation, we have been notified that there is no credible threat and school will be in session tomorrow. We sincerely appreciate the support and quick response by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office and Trenton Police Department with this situation. We take all threats seriously and will continue to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We encourage everyone that if you see something or hear something, say something. We need every parent to stress to their children the seriousness of making statements or comments that can be perceived as threatening. Our Stay Safe. Speak Up hotline is: 1-866-547-8362.
