2022 Ohio Seal of Biliteracy Recipients
Seniors Natalie Harbaum, Kayde Simpson, and Shacerin Soerka were presented with the Ohio Seal of Biliteracy award on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at the EHS senior awards ceremony.
The Ohio Seal of Biliteracy is an award conferred upon graduating high school seniors who can demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English and at least one world language. For students studying Spanish, the student must achieve a proficiency level of Intermediate High in reading, writing, listening, and speaking on the ACTFL proficiency scale.
This is a very high standard of achievement that few students reach. In addition
to the Ohio Seal, these students were awarded the Global Seal of Biliteracy™ in Functional Fluency, an internationally recognized credential that celebrates language skills and expands future opportunities for its recipients. Special recognition should be given to Shacerin Soerka, who recently achieved proficiency in English, making her fluent in four languages! Please celebrate these Edgewood students for their achievement.

Vaccine Requirements for 7th and 12th Grades
Dear Families,
Your student who is entering seventh grade or entering twelfth grade next school year must have vaccines required by the Ohio Department of Health to avoid exclusion from school next year. It is mandatory for in school attendance.
All students entering the 7th grade are required to have one dose of Meningococcal vaccine and one dose of the tdap vaccine, which is a booster for diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis.
All students entering the 12th grade are required to have two doses of Meningococcal vaccine. However, if the student received their first dose after their 16th birthday, then just one dose of Meningococcal vaccine is required.
When your child has had these vaccines, please make sure their required vaccine record is given to the school nurse. Students who do not meet the immunization requirements are considered inadequately immunized. Please take the opportunity this summer to update your child’s immunizations.
Any immunizations required by this law may be waived if you provide your written objection to the immunizations based on religious or philosophical grounds, or a physician certifies in writing that such immunizations are medically contraindicated and should not be given. Your school nurse has a written form for you to sign if you have one of these objections.
Thank you for your support with this very important health matter.

End of Year Medication Pick Up
Dear Families,
We are fast approaching the last day of school and would like to remind you to please pick up any medication that your child has been taking at school. It is our district’s policy that students may not transport medicine to and from school, and an adult must be responsible for the medication due to safety reasons. If you have already counted out the medications and know that there will be none left, you will not need to come to the clinic. Any medications left at school after May 26, 2022 will be destroyed and discarded. We thank you for your cooperation and support in this very important matter.
You will find a medication permit for the 2022-2023 school year on our school district's website. This form must be completed each year for prescription and non-prescription medications by both parent and physician. The medication form can be found under the Administration tab and click on Health Services. The link is at the top of the page.
REMINDERS FOR NEXT YEAR:
All medications must be received in the school office directly from a parent or responsible adult; and controlled substances, such as Ritalin or Adderall, must be counted at school when designated staff receive the medication. The parent or adult should remain present to verify the “pill count.”
All medications must be in the original container properly labeled with the student’s name. Please never send medications to school in envelopes, plastic baggies, back packs, or in your child’s pockets. These medications will not be given.
A separate medication permit must be completed for each medication that the student will be taking signed by both the parent and physician.
Please share a copy of Edgewood’s school medication permit with your child’s physician so that it will be on file for future use. Please call your child’s school if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Beth Brchwell, R.N., B.S.N.

Dear Edgewood Community,
We have received notification from the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) that Edgewood Intermediate School is awarded the Purple Star Award. Per ODE, "The Purple Star Award recognizes schools that show a major commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military. Schools that earn the award will receive a special Purple Star recognition to display on site. A school will be honored with the Purple Star Award if it completes all the required activities, plus one optional activity, listed below. The Purple Star Advisory Board helps decide a school’s eligibility for the award."
This is the second time this award has been given to Edgewood, once to Edgewood Elementary School and now to Edgewood Intermediate School. This renewal of the award allows our school to be a member of the Purple Star Class of 2022.
Congratulations to Edgewood Intermediate staff, students, and families!
