Class with work on board behind them

Students in Mr. Hoskin’s, Mrs. Martin's, Mrs. Simond's, and Mrs. Ewen/Mrs. Wesley's classes were challenged to create text-to-text connections through a learning method called hexagonal thinking.  Hexagonal thinking challenges students to think outside the box in order to form connections between items being studied.  Each first grader was provided with story element pictures and vocabulary words from the folktales they read earlier in the month. They were tasked with finding text-to-text connections using their hexagon cards to display how all folktales were related.   Students were verbally prompted to explain the connections they found.
