Urgent: Student Schedule Update

Good morning Edgewood Community.

The student absences at the high school are rising quickly due to students being quarantined and isolated as a result of Covid-19.  Starting Monday, December 7th and continuing through Friday, December 18th, high school students ONLY will follow the same hybrid schedule that was implemented the first week of school this year.  High school students with the last name beginning with A-K will attend Monday and Tuesday, while students with the last name beginning with L-Z will attend Thursday and Friday.  All high school students will be at home on Wednesday, December 9th and 16th.  This will lower the classroom capacity and help get us to Christmas break without having to close the building and go fully remote.  Too many students are now getting quarantined for the second and third time and missing an incredible amount of work.  All students preschool through grade 8 will continue with their current schedule until Christmas break.

After Christmas break, starting January 4th, 2021, ALL students preschool through grade 12 will follow the same hybrid schedule that we implemented the first week of school this year, and will continue through Friday, January 15th.  Knowing that there may be additional exposure during Christmas break, it is our hope that implementing this hybrid schedule will minimize the number of students needed to be quarantined at home.  Monday, January 18th, all students will be off school in order to recognize MLK Day.  On Tuesday, January 19th, all students preschool through grade 12 will return to school on their normal schedule.

Through this time period, including Christmas break, all extra-curriculars will continue as normal.

We understand that this is a very difficult time for all of us and there are no perfect solutions.  It is our goal to do as much as we can to make sure that we continue to keep our schools open and provide the best education possible under less than perfect conditions.  It is our belief that implementing this change will give us the best chance to provide an opportunity to keep our schools open.  On behalf of the entire Edgewood staff and the Edgewood Board of Education, we appreciate your patience, time, and understanding.

Sincerely,

Russ Fussnecker
