To our Edgewood Parents, Guardians, Students and Staff,

We want to update you regarding the active threat situation that occurred this morning and to provide information on why school was canceled today.  Early this morning, our district was notified by the Butler County Sheriff Office that an Edgewood High School freshman and another unidentified person were going to “shoot up the school”. These statements were made online late on Tuesday night (not on Monday, as previously reported by Fox 19 News). Fortunately, another individual saw the statements and reported the threat to the Butler County Sheriff Office (BCSO).

BCSO investigated the online threat, identified the student, and an arrest was made. Additional information regarding the alleged second individual required further investigation by BCSO which required additional time. It was for this reason our Administration decided to cancel school in order to allow the investigation to take place. The announcement was made at 6:35 am. This action was taken out of an abundance of caution to keep all our students and staff safe.

At the time when the announcement was made, several of our Edgewood Middle School buses were in the process of picking up EMS students.  Likewise, parents were dropping off students at the middle school.  As the students arrived at school, our EMS team and district Administrators quickly reacted and placed the students in lockdown.  Parents were notified and were reunified with their child at the school. We thank our parents, guardians, students, and our staff for their quick reaction and calm demeanor. All students have been safely reunified with their parent/guardian.

At 9:17 am this morning, the BCSO completed their investigation on the alleged second individual. Their investigation shows no proof of anyone else being involved.

All after school activities will take place today as scheduled.

We sincerely appreciate the support and quick response by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office with this situation.  We also want to say thank you to the individual who took action to notify BCSO upon reading the threatening statements online. Lastly, thank you to the EMS team and the administrators who assisted in a successful reunification of our EMS students and their families.

We ask that whenever you hear or see something threatening, say something!  Your actions will help keep all our students and staff safe. Our Stay Safe. Speak Up hotline is: 1-866-547-8362.
