Edgewood Elementary School will host a Veteran’s Day breakfast honoring those who served our country and those who are currently serving our country. The breakfast is scheduled on Friday, November 10th. Students plan to sing patriotic songs and read Thank You notes they've written to our veterans. Members of the Edgewood High School band will be playing and will lead the veterans in a parade throughout the school as the students and teachers cheer them on.
At Edgewood Middle School, an assembly will take place on Friday morning, November 10. Special Forces Tyler Beatty has been invited to speak to the 6th, 7th and 8th grade classes about his experience and the opportunities of serving our country. Tyler is an Edgewood graduate and joined the Army upon graduation.
Last Saturday, the Edgewood/Butler Tech FFA hosted a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser at Edgewood High School for Honor Flights. Our FFA chapter designated Honor Flight Dayton for their fall service project. Over 200 people attended the breakfast. 100% of the proceeds were donated to help sponsor 20 veterans to take a Honor Flight to Washington D.C. so they can visit monuments built in their honor. Every veteran and active military person who attended the breakfast was given a gift of appreciation from the FFA for their service. Then later that evening, students, parents and teachers traveled to Dayton International Airport for a late night Welcome Home Celebration as veterans returned from their Honor Flight. It was the perfect ending for the day. Getting to personally thank these brave men and women for their service and sacrifice touched everyone who was a part of the celebration.
