From the Principal

Dear Seven Mile Families:

Welcome to the 2011-2012 School Year! Here are a few important items for you to know. This year our hours have changed for students. We begin at 8:55 am and starting January 4th, 2012 we will end at 3:45 pm. There will be NO MORE LATE ARRIVAL DAYS. Students will have the same start time of 8:55am daily beginning in January.

ACADEMIC SUCCESS: Your child's academic, emotional, and social well-being is our primary concern. It is our goal to help all of our students be happy, healthy and succeed academically by meeting the standards established by the Edgewood Board of Education as well as those set by the state and federal governments. Together, we can achieve this goal.

ATTENDANCE: Students should not arrive before 8:30 A.M. School begins at 8:55 A.M. so please have your child to school no later than 8:30 A.M. so that he/she will get a good start to his/her day. Thanks for your cooperation with this matter. Attendance is directly linked to academic success! Should your child be sick and have a temperature of 100 degrees or higher, please do not send them to school. You can send in a note the next day to have the absence excused. OFFICE HOURS ARE 8-4PM. Our secretary's name is Kathy Johns.

BREAKFAST PROGRAM: The cost of breakfast is $1.25. Students who qualify for free and reduced lunch qualify for a free or reduced breakfast as well. The reduced breakfast price is 30 cents. Breakfast begins at 8:30am.

BUSSING: This year we will continue with our same arrival/dismissal plan as follows. Students should not be dropped off before 8:30 AM. Students are not permitted to enter the building before 8:30 a.m. The reason for this is there is no supervision of students until 8:30a.m. This is due to our new dismissal times and changes in schedules.

AM Drop off 1.Parents will enter the driveway off of Mill Street only and wrap around towards the main entrance staying next to the curb. 2. Just past the entrance is the drop off/pickup zone. This is where all students being dropped off will exit the car and enter the main entrance. Students are not to be dropped off in the parking lot areas, but ONLY in the one-way traffic off of Mill Street. Please note: -Please do NOT block the crosswalk for either AM drop off or PM dismissal/pickup. - Please have ALL students dismiss from the passenger side ONLY. This is for safety reasons. -If a bus arrives, we will stop the flow of the drop off line to allow for students to cross into the building (busses will run along the outside of the cars) 3.Handicap Parking should be used for students who have a walking disability. Students capable of walking, even though parents have a handicap placard, are to use the drop off/pickup area.

PM Parent pickup 1. Parents picking up students in vehicles must do this by lining up on the side of the building off Mill Street (enter off of Mill Street and pull up to crosswalk. You can then do a U turn and go out Mill or go around outside of busses by front of the building and go out Ritter. 2. Busses will be released first from the lot. If you are to seat belt your child, we ask that you do that once you have left the pickup zone so that the traffic flow is not slowed. 3. Parents picking-up students in person must do this outside the building. Please wait in the grass to the left of the entrance when walking into Seven Mile, please do not come into the building-this is for safety reasons. It is helpful if you put your child's name on a piece of paper (ex: yellow construction paper) and put in dash on the passenger side to speed up the dismissal process.
IMPORTANT: Walkers will be dismissed out of the door across from Seven Mile market along with the bike-riders (on Mill St.) to be closer to the crossing guard.

LUNCH: We are continuing the POS (point of sale) system again this year which means your child will have to use their ID# to buy lunch (we still also accept cash) but all students put in their ID everyday unless they are packing. Lunch is $2.35 this year. Reduced lunch is 40 cents.

EMAIL: Please make sure we have your current email address as emails are sent out to keep parents informed. This is a great way to receive communication from the school about what is happening in our school. Most announcements and information are through alert now via phone or email so let us know right away if your email address and/or phone number has changed.

APPROPRIATE ATTIRE: Please help your child arrive to school dressed appropriately for the weather and for their classroom schedule. On days your child is scheduled for physical education, please make sure she/he wears gym shoes. While popular, flip-flops are not the best footwear for the school environment and I highly discourage students from wearing them (we had a lot of accidents with flip-flops last year). Please remind your child to wear footwear with backing around the heal to help keep their shoes on and their feet safe.

SCHOOL PICTURES: School pictures are scheduled for October 19th. Picture retakes are Dec. 12th. Spring pictures are March 28th. Further information will be coming. Yearbooks will also be on sale this year.

SCHOOL FUNDRAISER: Our school fundraiser runs from Sept. 7th through Sept. 21st. All of the money raised goes back into the school to help with needs in the classrooms. Thanks for your help to make this year another successful fundraiser.

VACATION FORM: We have a vacation form that must be completed before students are gone on vacation during the school year. All absences during a vacation will be counted as unexcused according to Board Policy. You can see the secretary for a vacation form.

VOLUNTEERING/VISITING: We love to have visitors and volunteers at Seven Mile helping out. All visitors must sign in at the office and they must leave their drivers license. No one will be permitted to visit a classroom without leaving their license. This is for the safety of all students in the building.
