Dear Parents and/or Guardian,

Built in 1991, Edgewood Middle School is located on the main campus of the Edgewood City School District. EMS houses grades 6 through 8 and during the 2009/2010 school year will be honored and proud to educate over 800 students.

The Edgewood Middle School staff and students are looking forward to a few changes in the upcoming school year. Our bell schedule is going to transform back from a 7 to an 8 period day. And our school day will now begin at 7:25 AM and end at 2:30 PM. This improvement will allow for an increase in the amount of instructional time our students receive as well as continue to present them with an opportunity to enjoy a broad selection of class offerings. These changes, of course, will not affect the diverse curriculum opportunities EMS has always offered which include, but are not limited to Art, Band, Choir, Computers, Foreign Language Sampler, General Music, Industrial Technology, Physical Education and Transitions and Foundations.

At Edgewood Middle School, learning takes place both inside and outside of the classroom. Throughout their EMS career, students will have opportunities to attend a wide variety of educationally tied field trips in an effort to further enhance and enrich their learning. One highlight, our 8th grade field trip to Washington D.C. will take place in May of 2010.

Edgewood Middle School students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities. Said activities are an important part of their school experience. At EMS we make every effort to improve upon that experience by striving to meet the interests and needs of all of our students. We believe that through their participation, they will accept ownership, learn cooperation, teamwork and as a result increase their overall chances for success in school. Opportunities to get involved include, but are not limited to Drama, Music, Sports and Student Government.

Thank you for your continued and undying support of The Edgewood City School District and Edgewood Middle School. With it, we can expect nothing less than an excellent school year.

Go Cougars!
