Band Grades 5-8taught by Tim Baker

The instrumental music program begins at EMS. Students learn the basics of playing an instrument and study various styles of music in a performance setting. It is open to all students and previous experience is not required.
Edgewood students can begin the instrumental program in 5th grade. 5th grade band meets at Edgewood Middle School from 7:30am to 8:15am.
Students in 5th Grade band will ride a Middle School bus to EMS (Check with transportation to see when and where your child will catch the bus) Parents may also bring their child to band.
When band is finished at 8:15, a bus will take students to their elementary building. More information will be sent home at the start of school.In 5th grade band students learn the basics of reading music and the mechanics of playing an instrument. One concert will be performed in the spring of the first year year.
6th Grade Band- This is the 2nd year for band. Students study from a 2nd year book with more advanced concepts and work on musical arrangements for performance.
Students are required to turn in a practice log each week.
6th grade will perform 3 concerts per year.
7/8 Grade band
This group works on more advanced playing from a technique book and studies works for band of various styles of music.
They perform 3 concerts per year.
Grades for band are based on daily participation and progress,playing tests, and concert attendance.
Any students who would like to join band and is entering 6,7,or 8th Grade will need to take private lessons prior to starting band. This will allow them to catch up because of starting late in the band program.
