Babeck Smile Day a Success
Approximately 50 students at Babeck Elementary School had the benefit of being treated by a licensed dental staff with the Mobile Dentists/Smile Program. This organization provided on site preventive dental care services to students at Babeck on February 1, 2008. Because of increased demand, the team of dentists returned on February 8th. The mobile dentists set up their mini-dental office in our building and provided dental examinations, cleanings, fluoride treatments, x-rays, and sealants for participating children. Our school nurse, Mrs. Birchwell, has organized this program for the last three years because she knows how important good oral health is to our children's overall general health. Tooth decay is the most common chronic and infectious disease among children. Children who receive dental sealants in school-based programs have 60% fewer new decayed teeth for up to 2-5 years after a single application. To learn more about the Mobile Dentists program, go to www.mobiledentists.com and watch a short video.

Ohio Parent Information and Resource Center
The mission of the Ohio Parent Information Resource Center (PIRC) is to empower all parents and families by providing information, resources, and training to support children's learning and enhance the environments in which they grow. This is accomplished by providing information about the states accountability system for the No Child Left Behind Act. Answering questions and providing information about supplemental services and public school choice for schools that are in school improvement status are some of the examples of the services they provide.
More information about Ohio PIRC and the services that they provide can be obtained if you call 1-866-253-1829.
Teacher Qualification Information
The Edgewood City School District makes every effort to comply with all of the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB). One of the requirements of NCLB is to notify parents that they may request information regarding the professional qualifications of their child's teacher. If you would like to learn more about the qualifications of your child's teacher, please contact me at (513) 988-0111.
OhioReads Volunteers Needed!
Our OhioReads program has helped a large number of students improve their reading skills over the last several years. It is an activity that both the tutor and the student have enjoyed. Because of different work schedules, moving out of the area and other factors, the number of available OhioReads tutors has dropped. We need your help. We need you or a person you know with an hour to give to call Kim Proeschel at
988-0111 ext. 5113.
We provide training and the students. You provide approximately 1 hour a week to help two students read better. We hope you or the person you talk to can give us a call today!
