What is NHS?
The National Honor Society is an organization that recognizes students for excelling as role models in the areas of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Only those students who excel in all four areas are tapped into the National Honor Society. The emphasis of the organization is service and the students work on service projects during the school year.
How does a student become a member?
Any junior or senior with a 3.5 G.P.A. receives a profile packet in the fall. Packets include a profile sheet and forms for five teacher and two community recommendations. Additionally, all staff has an opportunity to provide input on each of the candidates. The faculty council which consists of five teachers reviews the packets and the input from all staff. Decisions of the faculty council are based on the qualifications of each individual. There are no quotas. Juniors, who are not tapped this year, will have another opportunity to apply next year if they still meet the 3.5 G.P.A. requirements.
