KINDERGARTEN and EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS:
All three (3) programs described below are open to residents of the Edgewood City School District only:Kindergarten
Edgewood City Schools provides a half-day kindergarten program. Children must be 5 years of age on or before August 1, 2010 to be eligible to enroll in kindergarten Edgewood City Schools also provides an extended day kindergarten program. Placement into this program is based upon screening results in August. Those children who would benefit from additional support are recommended for the program. Parent permission is required. This program does not begin until September.
Early Childhood Programs
The Edgewood City Schools offers two types of Early Childhood programs to serve children 3-5 years of age. The curriculum is designed to meet the developmental needs of all children including those with special needs. If your child is eligible for Kindergarten he/she is not eligible for either of these programs.
Spots are limited so early registration is recommended
INTEGRATED PRE-SCHOOL
The Edgewood Preschool program serves typically developing and special needs children 3 – 5 years of age. A child must be 3 by August 1st, 2010 to enter this program. The pre-school program is a half-day program, four days per week Monday through Thursday, with morning and afternoon sessions
PRE-KINDERGARTEN
A child who is four years of age on or before August 1, 2010 shall be eligible to apply for the Edgewood City Schools Pre-Kindergarten program. This program is a half-day program; five days a week, with morning and afternoon sessions.
Tuition Fees:
The tuition costs for the 2010 – 2011 schools year are $175.00 per month for the 5-day program, with a one-time materials fee of $ 20.00. and $145.00 per month for the 4-day program, with a one-time materials fee of $ 15.00. If tuition fees become one month overdue, the child will be withdrawn from the Early Childhood Program.
School Hours:
Morning Program 8:40a.m. – 11:10a.m.
Afternoon Program 12:40 p.m. - 3:10p.m.
How are AM and PM sessions determined?
Morning and afternoon attendance times are determined by your address within the district.
Bus Schedules:
Bus schedules are posted on the district's website in mid-August. You will complete a transportation form as part of your registration packet. At screening in August, this information will be reviewed and your child will be given a transportation tag to wear on his/her backpack during the school year. If you need to make changes to your original transportation request, they can be made at this time. After screening NO transportation changes can be made until AFTER the first week of school.

Early Childhood Screening:
August 12th and 13th
Your child will meet with an early childhood teacher and speech/language therapist for approximately 45 minutes on one of the two dates listed above. The purpose of screening is to familiarize your child with the school setting and assess basic academic/language skills. You will receive a letter the first of August with your assigned time. Please bring all emergency contact numbers (including doctor/dentist/etc.) as you will be completing MORE paperwork.
Kindergarten Screening:
August 16th and 17th
Your child will meet with a kindergarten teacher and speech/language therapist for approximately 60 minutes on one of the two dates listed above. The purpose of kindergarten screening is to familiarize your child with the school setting and assess basic academic/language skills.
The kindergarten screening consists of several parts:
Letter recognition (upper/lowercase)
Number recognition (0-10)
Counting
Writing his/her name
Cutting skills
Coloring/drawing
Shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval)
Rhyming words
The K-RAL (Kindergarten Readiness Assessment of Literacy) will be administered as
required by the State Department of Education. For more information on this assessment,

(Preschool is not in session on Fridays)
