Meeting Dates
The Edgewood Board of Education is a five-member board whose members are elected to represent the community to insure appropriate organizational performance within the school district.
The board appoints a superintendent and treasurer of schools and works closely with these individuals to drive the mission, goals and objectives of Edgewood City Schools.
Some of the duties and responsibilities of the board are the following:
- Adopt board policies as needed and required to govern the district.
- Through the recommendation of the superintendent approve employment of staff, renewal, non-renewal and termination of staff, salary schedules, course of study, curriculum, selection of textbooks, and other matters which impact our schools.
- Adoption of annual appropriation measures.
- Exercise its taxing power to provide funds for the operation of the district.
- Play a key role in adopting and driving the districts strategic plan.
Board members are elected at large to serve a four-year term. Each member is elected on staggering terms. The current board make-up is three members on one term, and two on another. Officers are elected by their fellow board members and serve one-year terms.
There are no term limits for board members.
Current Board Members
John Snyder-President
John is a 1969 graduate from Ross Local Schools. After graduation he enlisted into the U.S. Navy and became a Radioman where he spent four years, in which two years were in Morocco, North Africa. During his time in the service he married the former Jean Schallip. John left the Navy in 1973 to begin his career with Armco Steel as a computer operator. The Snyder's purchased a home in Trenton in 1973, and soon after came the birth of their first child former Edgewood student Kyle Snyder. In 1976, the Snyder's had their second child Casey. In 1977 they purchased land and built a home on Cotton Run Rd. In 1980 came their daughter Katie. After 29 years the Snyder's still live in the home on Cotton Run Rd. Both son's attended Miami University and Katie attended Wright State receiving a degree in education.
Kyle is now 31 married and works for the Northern Kentucky Planning Commission. He lives in Sharonville and has one child (Morgan) she is almost two.
Casey is 29 and single, he works at the Greater Cincinnati Airport for ComAir and lives in Ross.
Katie is 25 and married living in Seven Mile and just gave us our second grandchild ( Brady ). She teaches 2nd grade at Seven Mile Elementary.
John spent 20 years working for Armco until they outsourced the systems department to the IBM Corp. where he worked 11 more years in the PC Networking Group at the AK Steel Co. Corp Headquarters in Middletown for IBM before retiring in 2004.
First elected to the Board of Education in 1995, John became vice-president in 1997, were he held the post for two years and then was elected president a position he still holds on the board. John states, "Most of my early years on the board were consumed with building projects. I am very proud to have had a hand in improving the facilities of Edgewood City Schools. "Now with a levy behind us, we the Board think good things will happen at Edgewood. It has to be always about the kids in our District. Giving them what it takes to get a good Education and the tools to compete and make a better life for them selves. "

Jim Wirtley, Vice-President
A 1983 graduate of Edgewood, Jim first took office in January 2002 and lives in Trenton with his wife Karen and children Lauryn, Madalyn, Kaitlyn and Ryan. Jim became Vice-President in 2004 and still holds that position today.
Jim has also been active in the Edgewood Community as a coach for the Edgewood Youth Baseball Association and the Trenton F.O.O.T.S. soccer association. Jim earned a BS in Mathematical Sciences and a Masters of Applied Statistics from The Ohio State University. Jim is currently Manager, Benefit Operations for NewPage Corporation in Dayton.

Jim Miller
Jim Miller is a 1995 graduate of Edgewood High School. As a High School Senior, he started taking firefighting classes with D. Russell Lee Vocational School. After graduating he joined the Wayne Township Fire Department and Life Squad, where he was named Chairman of the Board from 1999 – 2006. As a firefighter, Jim went to New York City to volunteer in search and rescue efforts after the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
He started working at Butler County Juvenile Courts in November of 2000 and he is now a supervisor at the Rehabilitation Center. Jim married Laura Recker in 2003 and they have their first child, Grace Elizabeth Miller who was born September 13, 2005, which is also Jim and Laura's second year wedding anniversary (what a gift!). Jim is currently enrolled at Miami University working towards his bachelor's degree in Public Administration with a minor degree in Economics.
Jim lives outside of Jacksonburg, right off of the family farm where he was born and raised. He understands small town values and thinking. This is his first term on the Board of Education and he will be working to do the things that he campaigned for to help the school and the community both.

David Osborne
A 33-year resident of the district, Mr. Osborne is serving his first term on the board. Dave and his wife Susie have two children, Jonathan age 26, a graduate of Edgewood High School and Miami University, and Robbie a sophomore at Edgewood High School. He has been involved in youth sport programs and has volunteered in other capacities for the district throughout his life. Mr. Osborne is the owner of O & O Transport. He looks forward to making a positive contribution to the overall quality of Edgewood.

Karen McIntyre
Karen McIntyre has resided in the district since 1998 with her husband, Andy and her daughter, Kelly. The McIntyre family has resided in the Edgewood district for 50 years and has been very active in the schools and community. Karen's father in law, Robert McIntyre, served on the school board for many years and was instrumental in uniting the District through change. According to Karen he was her inspiration to get involved with the Edgewood School Board.
Currently employed by Miami University as Assistant to the Bursar, Karen has over 15 years of extensive experience in accounting with 10 of them in non-profit accounting. She also has over 10 years experience in Information Technology.
Karen comments that "She looks forward to helping the district with her knowledge and experience. She has a passion for excellence and will use it to ensure all Edgewood students receive a quality education in the most economical way possible."
